Week of January 28th

On Thursday the 31st the Jr. High Wrestling team traveled to Firelands for the last double duel of the season and defeated Keystone 72 to 12 and downed Firelands by a score of 66 to 19.

Friday the team traveled to Twinsburg for a two day 37 team tournament and had a great showing.   The Bucks scored 161 points which was good enough for 5th place.  Everyone on the team contributed to the score with at least one win.  Falling short of a placement were Josh Stahl,  A.J. Bartinelli,  Jesse Badiu,  Frank Svancara, Mark Stanton, Kenny Dalgleish, and Mitch Marquetant.   Jayson Knapp took an 8th place in probably the toughest weight class there.  He is still undersized for his weight class but you would never guess it by the way he wrestles.   Placing 5th were Nolan Martin, Brandon Hayner and Dillon Badiu.  Nolan may have started the season slow but since the first of the year he has really came on like gang busters.  Nolan had the most matches of anybody with eight. Brandon continues to impress his coaches with what he does out on the mat and we are pleased he decided to give wrestling another try.  Dillon does what he does best and that is just wrestle the guy in front of him.  He never worries about what might happen he just keeps trying to score.  After a heartbreak loss in the consy semi-finals he came back strong to win his last match.  Well the last two young men, Eddie Neitenbach and Colyn Limbert were champs in their weight classes.  To say they had an extraordinary run to the finals would be an understatement.   Both Eddie and Colyn dominated their opponents and were never in trouble of giving up points.  More than one coach commented about Colyn and Eddie turned more than a few heads.  I can't wait to see what they do in the next few weeks ahead.

I want to thank my stat girls for a job well done, Ava Nutter,  Emily Rupanovic,  Adilia Mora, and Juliana Orrick, and a special thanks to Kyliegh Graham, a freshman who helped on Friday. I know the days can be long and they do a fantastic job.

Week ending Jan. 12th

On  Thursday Jan. 10th the Jr. High wrestlers traveled to Lutheran West
for a double duel and beat Lutheran West 36 to 6 and then defeated
Clearveiw 53 to 24.  Friday the Bucks headed south for the annual 2 day
sixteen team tournament at Waynedale High School.  The Bucks looked
impressive both days and were able to score 197.5 points, good enough
for Runner Up.  Only 6 of the 15 wrestlers that made the trip fell short
of placing but all wrestled very well. Mark Stanton was a win away from
the podium, Frankie Svancara, Nick Brunst, and Josh Stahl each scored
some victories for the Bucks but fell short.   AJ Bartinelli and Artur
Vogt-Pimm ran into some real tough competition but that is how tourneys
go sometimes.   Ashton Porec made it to the semis and took a couple of
tough loses but was able to finish strong and take 5th place.  Kenny
continues to impress with his never say die attitude and came away with
a solid 4th and getting some much need pins along the way.  Jayson Knapp
is one little animal and had one heck of a great tournament.  This
little man gives up about 10 pounds to most of the guys he wrestles but
you would never know that.  Jayson took a 3rd place after losing to a
big 86 pounder in the semis and also added some extra team points for
the Bucks. Brandon Hayner had all of the gym watching his semi final
match, he didn't just have to deal with the bloody nose (both
nostrils) but we had to tape his face up,  he was able to push that match
into overtime only to fall short.  Brandon finished strong like we knew
he could taking a well deserved 3rd place.  Mitch Marquetant finally
woke up at about his 4th match of the weekend and finally started
wrestling like we knew he could.  Mitch finished 3rd place with a pin in
the final match,  great to have the old Mitch back, lets hope he sticks
around.  Nolan Martin has found the weight class that works best for
him, and proved that he is the Bucks 116 pounder.  Nolan had a great
tournament making it into the finals for first place but fell short to a
really solid wrestler that just seemed to have an answer for anything
that Nolan tried.  Nolan was the 116 runner up and I couldn't be prouder
of his improvement.   Dillon Badiu does what Dillon does best and that
is go out and just wrestle some of the best types of matches I like to
watch.  He stays on the attack, never cares who is across from him and
takes care of business.  Dillon was the 134 runner up after he basically
pinned himself and we will fix that this week at practice,  nice job
Dillon.   Colyn Limbert and Eddie Neitenbach were both champs at their
respective weight classes. Colyn and Eddie both made short work of their
competition  on the way to the top of the podium. They both pinned
everyone they wrestled and even had the other coaches saying wow after
the finals match.  These two young men are some of the hardest workers
in the room and it shows when they compete,  Great Job Boys!

The Bucks will travel to Mechanicsburg next to see if the can defend
their title.

Dec 16th;

The Jr High wrestling team scored 143.5 points to take 5th place at the Silver Buck tournament this last Saturday.

Josh Stahl and Frank Svancara didn't place but wrestled well and pulled off a couple of wins improving with each match.  Placing for the Bucks were Arthur Vogt Pimm with 8th who fought as hard as he could in each match and even coming back in a match to win. Nolan Martin took 6th place in one of the tougher weight classes and had to work for hard to place.   Brandon Hayner placed 5th and continues to impress his coaches. We had 4 wrestlers  place 4th Jesse Badiu, Mark Stanton, Ashton Porec, and Kenny Dalgleish. Jesse ran into some tough kids and even went down to the wire in a semi final. Mark has started to put together an impressive season with some nice wins. Ashton is starting to get into a little grove and with a little more work he could find himself on top of the podium. Kenny showed lots of heart in what we will call the blood match. With his nose taped up he won in overtime.  3rd place went to Jayson Knapp who is undersized for his weight class but wrestles like he isnt and got some real nice wins for the Bucks.  Dylan Badiu also placed 3rd and I believe he matured a little bit on Saturday and is ready for the next challenge. Eddie Neitenbach was runner up and to get that he had to bring out some if his best. I know Eddie was disappointed but there is a separation between 7th and 8th grade and he is seeing that now. Colyn Limbert was champ at 80 lbs and I'm not sure he got challenge all day. Colyn is one tough competitor and was even a little critical about his finals match (you did just fine Colyn).  In all we had a nice day, it would have been better with a trophy but I think we grew as a team Saturday. We never put our heads down and gave up, I couldn't be prouder of the boys.  Thursday the wrestlers travel to Milan Edison for a duel.
